Reading: Students should spend at least 20 minutes reading a book at their level. Preferably they will read out loud so they can hear themselves and you can hear them to ensure they are using reading strategies and trying to read with expression and good flow.
Writing: Students should spend about 20 minutes writing, which may look different every day (ie. journal entry, writing prompt, picture prompt, story writing, concept practice worksheets, other task, etc.).
Daily Language Review
Writing tasks for week
Spelling: Students should spend 10-20 minutes per day working on their spelling words for the week to ensure they can understand the rule for the sort and the spelling of the words. On the last day of the week, I will upload an audio file of the test words.

Words Their Way is the spelling program we used in class. The students should be familiar with the routine, though it will be slightly different working on the words independently at home instead of in groups at school. Several weeks worth of word sorts and tests were provided in the learning package, but all will be available on this site and on Google Classroom as well. The test words will be made available as early as noon on Thursdays for students who feel they are ready to be tested before the end of the week, and tests should be completed and submitted by Friday at 5:00pm. You can submit through Google Classroom or email your word sorts and tests to me at [email protected].
Suggested weekly routine for spelling:
Monday - Cut out or write down your words and sort them.
Tuesday - Speed sort your words and read them all out loud. Check the YouTube and answer key (on website) to make sure you’re correct.
Wednesday - Practice writing all your words, try not to look after first seeing what word to write.
Thursday - Have a family member test you on your words. Make sure you’re spelling them correctly and putting them under the right heading.
Friday - Test (audio for test on Google Classroom and website).
