This is the last week of school!!!
I can't believe we're already finished the school year. This past term has been a whirlwind of change and new learning that we've all had to adapt to. I want to congratulate each and every one of you for a job well done! We've all come at this from different perspectives and abilities, but no matter the route we took, we made it here to the end of the 2019-20 school year. I want to thank you for trying your best during these trying times, and for bearing with me as I learn a new way of connecting with you all. I have kept with the routine of assigning literacy and numeracy tasks each day for this week, but I also understand that it's the last week of school and usually at this time we're not focusing as heavily on academics as usual. Please do what you're able and I'm happy to look over it and give you feedback. There is some fun science (coding) this week to take a look at. It's fun to do, so even if you come back to it later when you have time (my website will remain active), it's worth a look for whenever you're ready. Monday: Class meeting (Google Meet) at 11am - last one!!! Please come!!! Tuesday: regular remote learning day Wednesday: Food share at Craigflower, Grade 5 graduation gift give away (11-12), and report cards will be handed out. (no meeting this day as I'll be at the school for the Grade 5 grad.) Thursday: in class day for volunteer return to school students. Last day of the school year! If your child has not yet filled out the self-reflection sheet that was emailed out last week and posted on Google Classroom, please have them do that as soon as possible as it will be part of their final report card. If you would like me to call you directly to fill out the form directly, please let me know. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll do my best to help! It's been such a pleasure to get to know all of the grade 4s and 5s this year. I've truly enjoyed our time together and wish everyone the very best for next year! -Ms. Lesowski

There are only 2 weeks left of school! It sure doesn't feel like a typical June at school. Normally we would be going on field trips, having special assemblies, and spending lots of time together before heading off to summer vacation. However, it has been really nice to see the few students that are attending school in person, and it's been great to see those virtually that have been able to make it to our class meetings or have scheduled one-on-one meetings with me.
This week we will have our class Google Meet meetings at 11:00am and Monday and Wednesday. Please follow the links that will be posted in Google Classroom at 10:50, or you can follow the links from the Week 10 Learning Opportunities PDF or from your Google Calendar. You can find this week's learning opportunities on the homepage, on the side of this post, emailed out to parents and students, and posted on Google Classroom on Monday morning. As always, please do what you are able and don't worry about completing everything as I assign quite a bit so that those who want the extra work have it. Even though we're in the last couple of weeks, more learning can happen, and practice is always important, especially for writing, reading, and math. You can find some Social Studies and Science content on those pages of my website and posted on Google Classroom. These are not required, but are part of the curriculum, so even just looking over this content will be useful. -Ms. Lesowski There are only 3 weeks left until summer break! We're entering into week 9 of our remote learning. Last week we had a few students back in the school for Thursday and Friday, and it was so nice to see a few faces in person. The remote learning that has been provided so far will continue to be provided even though I am in the school 2 full days each week. I will have Mon-Wed to provide online and phone support to students who need it, and I'll do my best to keep on top of Google Classroom and emailed work during the days I'm in the school.
Our weekly virtual class meetings will be Monday and Wednesday at 11:00am this week. We'll be using Google Meet instead of Zoom as there have been too many technical issues with Zoom and Meet is simpler and easier to access. The links to our meetings are in the Week 9 PDF on the side of this post and on the home page (also emailed out and posted on Google Classroom). Please continue to do your best to complete the work you're able, treating each week as a menu. It's most important to continue reading, writing, and practicing some math every day. Those things may look different for everyone and that's OK, it's just important to keep at it! I love being able to see students face to face, so if you need any help with accessing the work, doing the work, need a lesson on something, or just want to check in and say "hi", please schedule a virtual meeting with me! And don't forget to attend our two class meetings this week! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns, and please send me any work that your child has done, even if it's not something I've assigned. I especially love getting photos of your kids working or out in nature! - Ms. Lesowski We're starting into our 8th week of distance learning. I still didn't see many faces this week during our zoom meetings, but hopefully I'll see more of you this coming week. I've been reading aloud from Wonder, and Mrs. Nordstrom joined once last week to read and draw with us as well.
With me and some students being back in school part time this week, our Zoom meetings will look a little different. We can still meet at 11:00am on Monday, but I'll be in the school on Thursdays and Fridays with some students. We can try to Zoom on Thursday and I can hold my laptop up so everyone can be seen, but I think we'll switch to a Wednesday Zoom meeting just to check in part way through the week. I'll schedule that for 11:00am as well to hopefully keep it easy to remember. Our meetings will only be about 30 minutes long, depending on how many students attend and what we need to go over. If you're still having trouble getting into these meetings, please let me know and I can help you get logged on. You can find the PDF with the literacy and numeracy tasks for the week on the side of this page, on the home page, in Google Classroom, and emailed out to parents and students. Please also check the Socials and Science pages as I update them with new information and assignments weekly, even though those subjects aren't mandatory right now. Also, please check the links at the bottom of the home page to access Ms. Gallup's, Mrs. Thorkleson's, and Mrs. Beaupre's web pages. They have some amazing things on there! Please send me any work that your child has done, even if it's not something I've assigned. I miss them and would love to see how they're spending their days. You can email me with pictures or a message ([email protected]), or add documents/assignments through Google Classroom. Remember to treat each week's learning opportunities as a menu, so only do what feels right. As always, if you need more support or help from me, just let me know and I'm more than happy to give you a call or help through text/email. -Ms. Lesowski We're already starting week 7 of distance learning! I didn't see many faces this week during our zoom meetings, so hopefully I'll see more of you this coming week. Mrs. Nordstrom and I are going to read and draw from Wonder together over Zoom this week. I may be the one drawing, so you should definitely come to the meeting to see that!
Our Zoom meetings will be on Monday at 11:00am, and Thursday at 1:00pm. Last week we had more students attend during the 11am meeting, so I'm thinking about moving the Thursday one to 11am as well, but we'll see how the students feel about that at our Monday meeting. I will let you know if the time changes for Thursday. Our meetings will only be about 30 minutes long, depending on how many students attend and what we need to go over. If you're still having trouble getting into these meetings, please let me know and I can help you get logged on. Students should be checking Google Classroom and/or their sd61learn gmail for updates from me as well as links to the meetings and learning opportunities. You can find the PDF with the literacy and numeracy tasks for the week on the side of this page, on the home page, in Google Classroom, and emailed out to parents and students. As always, if you need more support or help from me, just let me know and I'm more than happy to give you a call or help through text/email. -Ms. Lesowski We're already into Week 6 of distance learning! It was really nice to see a couple of new faces over video chat this week, and I hope I can see even more of you as the weeks go on.
Due to Monday, May 18 being a statutory holiday (Victoria Day), we'll have our first Zoom meeting of the week on Tuesday, May 19 at 11:00am. We will still have our second Zoom meeting on Thursday, May 21 at 1:00pm. If you're still having trouble getting into these meetings, please let me know and I can help you get logged on. Our meetings will only be about 30 minutes long, depending on how many students attend and what we need to go over. You can find the PDF with the literacy and numeracy tasks for the week on the side of this page, on the home page, in Google Classroom, and emailed out to parents and students. Remember to treat each week's learning opportunities as a menu, so only do what feels right. If you're looking for more, you can check Google Classroom and look through my website to find more ideas for science, socials, PE, art, and French. As always, if you need more support or help from me, just let me know and I'm more than happy to give you a call or help through text/email. -Ms. Lesowski We're starting Week 5 of distance learning! I really enjoyed seeing the students who were able to join our virtual class meetings this week, and our mid-week birthday Zoom for Francis.
Going forward, we'll continue to use Zoom (instead of Google Meet) to meet on Mondays at 11am and Thursdays at 1pm. These meetings will only be about 30 minutes long. Hopefully this schedule will work for everyone and we'll see even more students joining. I'll be emailing out the invitations to the meetings at the beginning of each week with the weekly literacy and numeracy learning opportunities. I'll also post the invites on Google Classroom, and I will include the links to join the meetings on the "weekly work" file on this page and the home page. Students will have access to the meetings through their Google Calendar with their sd61learn account. Please send me any work that your child has done, even if it's not something I've assigned. I miss them and would love to see how they're spending their days. You can email me with pictures or a message ([email protected]), or add documents/assignments through Google Classroom. Please note that Friday, May 15 is a pro-d day. Also, remember to take each week's learning opportunities as quickly or as slowly as you need. The learning opportunities are meant to be treated as a menu, so only do what feels right. As always, if you need more support or help from me, just let me know and I'm more than happy to give you a call or help through text/email. -Ms. Lesowski We're already in week 4 of our distance learning. I was so happy to see all the students that joined our video meeting on Friday. I miss everyone so much! Many teachers are holding video meetings with their classes once or more each week, and I would love to have that personal connection with everyone weekly as well.
I am scheduling a weekly class video meeting on Mondays at 11am to check in and go over the learning opportunities for the week. I am also scheduling a meeting later in the week on Thursdays at 1pm to go over any issues or questions that have come up during the week and to remind everyone about learning opportunities that may not have been explored yet. I would love for everyone to join both meetings each week, but if you can only come to one or can only come sometimes that's okay. I'm hoping that with a set schedule for the meetings each week we'll have even more student participation. We used Google Meet on Friday, but I'm happy to use Zoom if that'll be easier for families to manage. Unless I hear differently, I'll set the meetings with Google Meet, and I'll send out the invite to the meetings through the students' sd61learn email, parents' emails, and post it in Google Classroom. For the literacy and numeracy tasks this week please see the the website pages or open the "Week 4" document attached to this page and on the home page. This document has also been emailed. I have also updated the Socials, Science, and Sign-in pages for Week 4. When your child completes work, even if it's not something I have assigned, I would love to see it. Options for sharing student work:
Remember that each family is different and that not all of these tasks are mandatory. Have your child do as many or as few as they and you feel comfortable with. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll do my best to help! -Ms. Lesowski We completed one more week of distance learning! Thank you to all the parents/guardians and students for all your hard work this week in completing and uploading assignments for me to see. It was also so lovely to see so many families during the Craigflower car parade on Friday!
Please click on the Week 3 file on the right of this post to see the literacy and numeracy tasks for this week. You can also find these tasks as you navigate through the website and they are uploaded to appear in Google Classroom throughout the week. I have also updated the Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Fun Daily Questions pages. New this week: Mrs. Nordstrom reads and draws Wonder from where we left off before spring break. Find the button to the videos on the literacy page. Options for submitting student work:
Remember that each family is different and that not all of these tasks are mandatory. Have your child do as many or as few as they and you feel comfortable with. I know several families were able to acquire technology this past week, so I'm hoping to see more student activity on Google Classroom and my website, but if you need time to just navigate these new platforms without submitting anything yet that's okay. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll do my best to help! -Ms. Lesowski We made it through the first week of distance learning! Thank you to all the parents who helped their child with navigating this website and/or Google Classroom, and completing and uploading evidence of your child's learning. Thank you to all my students that put in such great effort over the week to complete many assignments. I've never looked forward to receiving and marking work more than I do now that I don't get to see their lovely faces every day. This is a new experience for us all, and as frustrating as it can sometimes feel, I think that we're all learning some really great skills that will help supplement our learning in the future.
Please see the Week 2 file on the right of this post to see the literacy and numeracy tasks for this week. You can also find these tasks as you navigate through the website and they are uploaded to appear in Google Classroom on Monday. I have updated the Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Fun Daily Questions pages, and I have added some neat resources to the Health/PE and French pages. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll do my best to help! -Ms. Lesowski |
